MDaemon 8.1 Introduces DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM); DKIM Protects Email Identities, Message Content, RedNova.com, 27 July 2005

“MDaemon 8.10, a DKIM capable version of Alt-N's popular email server, is a secure, turn-key mail server solution. It can also serve as a secure "front-door" to an existing email system, such as Microsoft Exchange, thereby bringing SPF, DomainKeys, and DKIM capabilities where it may not have previously existed. In addition to DKIM, MDaemon 8.1 will include support for "Greylisting", a relatively new spam fighting technique which involves deferring the initial acceptance of a new mail message from unknown senders and tells the sending email server to "try again later".

E-mail is for older people, teens say in survey, Reuters, 27 July 2005

“Internet users from 12 to 17 years old say e-mail is best for talking to parents or institutions, but they are more likely to fire up IM when talking with each other, the nonprofit Pew Internet and American Life Project found. E-mail is still used by 90 percent of online teens. But the survey found greater enthusiasm for instant messaging.”

Teens using Net in record numbers, SCMP.com, 28 July 2005

“Of those surveyed, 87 per cent said they use the Internet. About half of the young people who have online access say they go on the Internet every day, up from 42 per cent in 2000. Three-quarters of wired teens use instant message, compared with 42 per cent of online adults who do so. Teens most often reserve IMing for friends and e-mail for adults, including parents and teachers.”

IBM and Avaya team up for VoIP, InfoWorld.com, 27 July 2005

“Avaya's VoIP technology will enable a new "click-to-call" feature in IBM's Lotus Notes and Sametime IM collaboration products. This function allows users to launch a phone call to an e-mail or IM contact without leaving their inbox or IM client. A call is initiated by right-clicking on a name or multiple names within an e-mail or IM. The second part of the agreement brings integrated audio conferencing to IBM's Lotus Web Conferencing. Audio conferencing provided by Avaya Meeting Exchange will give Web conferencing participants a visual indication of who is speaking and advanced capabilities such as dialing out to new meeting participants, mute, and volume control.”

China Wireless Bets on Smartphones for Growth, 27 July 2005

“China is the world's biggest cellular market with over 340 million users, but has also become one of the world's most competitive. So far investors like what they see. Shares in China Wireless have risen around 45 percent since the company's initial public offering late last year, far outpacing a 5.5 percent gain for the broader Hang Seng Index over the same period. Smartphone sales in China are expected to grow at an average rate of over 45 percent per year until 2008, according to official data.”
