Adware maker seeks to thwart rogue installs, Cnet News, Sept 7 2005

” In a continuing effort to clean up its image, advertising software maker 180solutions has updated its products to thwart rogue distribution.

180solutions has long been in the crosshairs of anti-spyware groups. The Bellevue, Wash., company makes the 180search Assistant and Zango Search Assistant applications that deliver pop-up ads to users as they perform Web searches. While the company distributes Zango on its own, 180solutions relies on about 8,000 third parties to distribute 180search. Those parties get paid for each installation of the software.”

Judge to rule Tuesday in Kai-Fu Lee case, Cnet News, Sept 7 2005

“SEATTLE--A Washington state court judge plans to issue a ruling Tuesday on whether former Microsoft executive Kai-Fu Lee will be allowed to immediately begin setting up a China development center for Google.
After hearing two days of testimony this week, Judge Steven Gonzalez said late Wednesday that he would review the evidence and issue his decision both in court and in writing on Tuesday morning.”

New Cisco flaw could pose threat to Net, Cnet News, Sept 7 2005

“A serious flaw in Cisco Systems software puts computer networks at risk of cyberattack and has prompted security vendor Symantec to raise its Internet threat level.
A vulnerability in Cisco's Internetwork Operating System could be exploited to crash or remotely run malicious code on devices that run IOS, the San Jose, Calif., networking giant warned Wednesday in a security advisory. IOS runs on Cisco's routers and switches, which make up a large portion of the Internet's infrastructure.”
