“Microsoft releasedMicrosoft released two new add-ins for its MSN Search toolbar, one aimed at fighting identity theft and the other designed to help people find their favorite MSN online games more quickly. The phishing add-in is reportedly the first technology of its kind. It responds to growing reports of identity theft that result from bogus e-mails and Web sites.”

Rediff to market mobile content in India, CNET News, August 31, 2005

“Indian portal Rediff.com on Wednesday announced a tie-in with television magazine GR8 TV to market news and information about TV stars to cell phone users. Consumers will be able to access the magazine’s content through mobile alerts. Premium offerings such as wallpapers, screensavers and video clips will be available to subscribers with a GPRS wireless network connection.”

Microsoft Makes Own VoIP Move with Teleo Purchase, eWeek, August 31, 2005

“With the acquisition of VOIP provider Teleo, Microsoft follows the lead of Google and others in pursuit of voice services. Microsoft announced Wednesday that it has acquired Teleo, a provider of voice-over-IP software and services. Microsoft said it expects to fold Teleo's technology and expertise into its own VOIP product and service developments.”

Phone virus spreads through Scandinavian company, InfoWorld, August 31, 2005

“A mobile phone virus recently hit a small company in Scandinavia and spread from one handset to another, according to security vendor F-Secure. It was the first instance F-Secure has seen of a mobile virus making serious headway into an enterprise after showing up on an employee's phone, said Ero Carrera, an antivirus researcher at F-Secure, which is based in Helsinki, Finland. The outbreak lasted about a day as dozens of employees received the virus and about 20 of them opened it on their phones, causing it to spread, according to a Web log entry on F-Secure's site. F-Secure did not identify the company that experienced the outbreak or the country where it is based.”
