Yahoo faces Flickr backlash, CNET News, August 29, 2005

“Hundreds of members of photo-sharing network Flickr have a nasty message for its new corporate parent Yahoo. In the tradition of acquisitive Internet companies, Yahoo has quietly given notice to users of Flickr, which it bought in March, that it will merge the operations. In a clause in Flickr's FAQ, Yahoo said it will "migrate" all independent account holders to its own network, requiring them to create a Yahoo ID.”

Flickr Fans to Yahoo: Flick Off!

“A splinter faction of Flickr photo-sharing community members is threatening a symbolic “mass suicide” to protest closer integration with the website’s new owner, Yahoo. The portal giant bought Flickr’s developer, Ludicorp, for an undisclosed sum in March and took ownership of the site when it moved from Vancouver, Canada, to Yahoo’s Sunnyvale, California, campus this summer.”

Web site gives email senders a reputation, CENT News, August 29, 2005

“A new Web site aims to help determine whether a specific computer has been sending legitimate email or spam. The TrustedSource Web site uses data from reputation filters, which are billed as the next big thing in e-mail security. Makers of spam-fighting tools collect data on e-mail senders and use that to assign "reputations" to e-mail sending computers and Internet domains. Those who send a lot of spam get a negative rating and their messages are more likely to be filtered out.”

CipherTrust Tool Blocks Spam, eWeek, August 29, 2005

“Messaging security vendor CipherTrust Inc. this week will roll out a new appliance that stops spam and other unwanted messages before they hit corporate networks, according to company officials. The company also is releasing the newest version of its flagship IronMail email security gateway applicance, which now includes tighter integration with CipherTrust’s TrustedSource engine and better reporting options.”

“Messaging security hardware vendor CipherTrust is breaking out of the firewall with a new appliance and an enhancement to its flagship offering.
