ISP offers free trial of service, SCMP, August 2, 2005

Hong Kong Broadband Network (HKBN), a subsidiary of City Telecom, is ratcheting up online protection for its subscribers through a new anti-spam service backed by information security giant Symantec. The Brightmail Anti-spam software form Symantec has been incorporated in the network operator’s bbGuard service, designed to tackle junk electronic mail for both residential and corporate HKBN users.

Avaya Launches Voice Portals for Web Services, InternetNews, August 1, 2005

Communications software giant Avaya is pushing its Voice over IP software to the next level with the ability to integrate within a Service Oriented Architecture. The company said its new Avaya Voice Portal significantly reduces the costs of deploying speech self-service by using a company’s existing Web services.

Wi-Fi Phone Options Expand, eWeek, August 1, 2005

Meru Networks Inc. and Zultys Technology, specializes in VoIP technology, have each unveiled plans for products that support voice services over a wireless LAN. Zultys announced plans for its first Wi-Fi phone last week – WIP 2, which runs on Linux and is compatible with any IP telephony system that uses SIP.

Legend unveils VoIP product, The Register, August 1, 2005

Legend Communications – formerly Business Serve PLC – has unveiled a new internet telephony product for homes and businesses. The company will launch fixed price unlimited packages – unlimited calls to UK landlines from GBP 4.99/mo for numbers with 01 and 02 prefixes, or, for GBP 16.99/mo, unlimited UK and international calls.

Portal Offers VoIP Downloads, eWeek, August 1, 2005

MessageLabs to protect against Web pests, cnNews, August 1, 2005

MessageLabs in October plans to introduce new Web filtering services, the company’s first foray outside of email security. The new services will scan Web traffic for viruses, spayware and adward. Also, MessageLabs can filter based on Web addresses, allowing a customer to block access to specific Web sites. To use the services, customer would route Web traffic through a MessageLabs data center.

Yahoo to offer CNN, ABC video feeds, cnNews, August 1, 2005

Yahoo has signed deals with CNN.com and ABC News to expand the content it offers. Under the agreements, daily video feeds from the 2 media companies will be available on Yahoo, starting in September. The news feeds will be supported by advertising and will be free to consumers.
