Government talks up internet telephony for the public sector, SCMP.com, 19 Apr 2005

“Hong Kong is pushing for a steady adoption of voice over internet protocol (VoIP) communications in the public sector. The effort is spearheaded by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer. It has invested about $1.7 million to set up the Hong Kong government's first VoIP-enabled offices and demonstration centre at Cyberport.�

ISP Steaming Over Coffee Spam, 18 Apr 2005

“Hypertouch, an ISP based in Foster City, Calif., sued Victor Th. Engwall & Co., owner of the Gevalia Coffee brand, and its parent company, Kraft Foods, for sending more than 8,500 unsolicited and unwanted e-mail advertisements for Gevalia.�

“A poll of UK residential email users and SMEs published Monday found 57 per cent have no anti-spam filtering installed. Most consumers (60 per cent) polled in the survey from email filtering outfit Checkbridge reckon that their ISP should be responsible for stopping viruses and spam. Only one in five (17 per cent) of consumers believe that it is their responsibility. A quarter (24 per cent) of people surveyed receive 50 or more spam emails a day.�
