1. Google searches for way to satisfy Wall Street

Google's declared mission is to organise the world's information and make it universally accessible - except when the data involve its own financial forecasts. Google still refuses to supply earnings projections routinely dispensed by other high-profile companies, part of its founders' aversion to Wall Street's conventions. But the online search engine leader appears to be striving to share more business details with investors.

2. Microsoft aims to stamp out spam
Microsoft researchers are working on a way to let people use their feet to perform many routine computer tasks. By tapping buttons on a pad on the floor users can scroll through their inbox and open, close and delete messages. The researchers said they developed the foot interface to make interacting with computers more energetic.

3. AOL to pay bulk e-mail fees for nonprofits

Less than a week after interest groups complained about a proposed bulk-e-mailing fee, America Online Inc. said nonprofit organizations will not have to pay to send mass messages to their members after all.

4. Spam Mutates
Junk ads are migrating to blogs, instant messages, and cell phones.
Peter Shinbach recently threw in the towel and shut down Bach Door, his online-communications blog.The public relations executive from Birmingham, Michigan, was fed up with so-called comment spam. Returning from a weeklong vacation, he found a slew of comments on his blog that had nothing to do with communications: They were posts from spammers promoting gambling sites and prescription drugs.

BEIJING - China's government is trying to boost public interest in its figurehead parliament and its companion advisory body by setting up Web logs for members as they meet this week. Called "bo ke" in Chinese, blogs are popular with young people despite strict censorship rules

6. eBay Developers Create Huge Software-As-A-Service Community

Mpire Corp. will launch in March a mobile search application to help sellers determine the correct day, time and price to sell their products on eBay Inc. With a similar tool introduced in January from Mpire, the eBay community gained Mpulse, a resource to monitor up-to-the-minute listing trends for items from Apple Computer Inc. iPods to Microsoft Corp. Xboxes. About 10,000 users tap into the service. Now the provider of Web-based services will offer the application on mobile devices.

7. Certified Mail: The Rebuttal

AOL has no intention of swaying from its certified e-mail course, and at least one analyst firm said it shouldn't feel any pressure to do so. In a statement following the press conference of the coalition of organizations rallying against AOL's proposed use of GoodMail's Certified Email pay-to-send service.
